Did anyone go through labour and forget to get pain relief?

I just wondered if anyone else found labour so distracting that they couldn’t think of anything else, including pain relief.

I really wanted to try gas and air and had planned to, and the midwife had some with her that I could have used if I had remembered it existed!

I was very quiet and very calm and totally in my own head, and totally just forgot that there was such a thing as pain relief.

Has anyone else done this? I know it sounds weird!

Chosen Answer:

i have seen many births and that is one thing NOBODY forgets even if they dont want it they know they can change their mind

Is taking vicodin before a test unethical?

My boyfriend is planning to take vicodin to help him focus on an important entrance exam for grad school.

I’ve told him I don’t think it’s right and unfair, but he’s convinced it’s as innocent as drinking coffee.

Thoughts?

Chosen Answer:

Is he addicted to vicodin? If not, that is a really, really stupid thing to do. It is a depressant. You may feel good, but you brain does not work as well. Certainly not ” innocent” , and a dangerous practice to start.

Can I make final pain relief decision during labour?

I am researching like crazy, but can’t fully decide what pain relief I want for labour. Can I make the final decision during labour, depending on the pain? This is my first child and I’m starting to get really nervous. I’m going to talk about this with the doctor at my next appointment, but am interested to hear what you think.

I have really bad menstrual cramps when I’m on my period. Is this at all related to how much pain I’ll have during labour?

Chosen Answer:

I’m not sure that there is any correlation between severity of menstrual cramps and severity of pain during labor. For me, who had a history of bad menstrual cramps, the pain of labor was pretty intense. But that might not mean anything.

Every woman has different pain tolerances, and I’m sure you can play it by ear during labor. Research your options, discuss them with your doctor and then see what happens. You may be perfectly able to pull labor off without taking anything for pain, but I think most women opt for an epidural, which greatly relieves pain (an absolute godsend in my opinion!).

I’m feeling you! I remember being very nervous with my first. But honestly, don’t worry too much. You’ll come through it and everything will be okay.

How long does it usually take for a person to get addicted to vicodin?

I have been taking vicodin for two weeks now and I think I may be addicted to it. What can I do to help myself and how can my doctor help me? serious answers only please. Thank You!

Chosen Answer:

I’m a nurse. I would talk to the doctor about it. Your’e not far along as many people. You can simply chose not to take them. Most people take them for a very long time and later realize they have a problem. I think you are fine. It took you only two weeks and you realized, hey this could be a problem. My advice is to discontinue the use of it . You will later noticed that you caught the problem right before the addiction happened. Your’e fine, after all this isn’t what you wnat to do and your’e not in denial, that’s great. Be strong during this time, you can do it, I know you can.

What will happen to me if Vicodin is pulled off market?

OK, so if this panel, votes to pull Vicodin and Percocet off the market. I have chronic pain everyday due to severe scoliosis and muscular dystrophy, a muscle wasting disease. I am currently on Vicodin 7.5/500 Mgs, two tablets, every 4 hours. What will happen if Vicodin is taken off the market? If you are a doctor, what would YOU do, to help me? Or what do you think my doctor will do, or prescribe to keep my pain still under control?

Chosen Answer:

You will probably be switched to Vicoprofen, which is hydrocodone with ibuprofen (Advil) instead of acetaminophen (Tylenol).

They are only thinking about getting rid of combination painkillers that contain acetaminophen because it is highly toxic to the liver. They are not banning hydrocodone.

Is it ok to take vicodin 1 day after drinking?

I had four shots last night (24 hours ago), and I have excruciating wisdom teeth pain and painful sinus headaches. Is it ok to take one 5/500 vicodin pill?

Chosen Answer:

You shouldn’t have any troubles there. As stated, the alcohol should have left your system. I think it dissipates at the rate of 1-1 1/2 drinks per hour for adults.

What are the Changes to vicodin after expiration date?

It’s a 5/500 (whatever that means I think that means 500 milligrams?) tablet that’s stored at room temperature in the little orange bottle from the pharmacy. It says it’s discard date is like February of this year. What changes about the vicodin after the discard date? Is it still good?

Chosen Answer:

The discard date IS the date the prescription expires and not necessarily the date the medication expires. If you take any of the drug after this date and end up having a drug test, the prescription is no longer valid and therefore cannot be used to justify a positive result.

My best advice would be to discard them.

EDIT: the 5/500 means 5mg oxycodone / 500mg acetaminophen

Is there anything you can give a cat for pain relief?

I think she just pulled a muscle. She likes to wrestle with the dog and she is an older lady cat. I know you can’t give aspirin to cats. Just curious. If it continues we’ll go see the vet. I just wondered about the pain relief possibilities.
Thanks for imput thus far. I put out the heating pad and will not give her anything till she sees the vet. She instigates the wrestling with the dog (who is not mean but rambunctious nonthe less). We are keeping her as quiet as possible.

Chosen Answer:

She needs to be kept in a quiet place, in a little bed with a blanket. aspirin and paracetamol are toxic to cats, so don’t give her any. There is stuff your vet may give her, that will help her.

Should/Can I put a bit of Neosporin Plus Pain Relief on my rats very minor injury?

So I accidentally slammed my rats tail in the cage door, there is a tiny flap of loose skin, no blood, it is very tiny but she seems to be in a bit of pain. If you saw the injury you wouldn’t think it needed a vet.

But is it ok to put a dab Neosporin Plus Pain Relief on her tail?
Ok, guys. Thanks. I decided not to give it to her, but I gave her clean shredded newspaper to prevent infection.

Chosen Answer:

I had a similar situation. I had two dwarf hamsters and one got a minor cut on her stomach. I put Neosporin on it. The other hamster (the male) licked the cut, trying to help her. He got sick and died shortly after =[ . I'm pretty sure your rat would try to lick his injury too. It's an animals natural way of healing, and the medicine will make him sick. Just let it heal naturally. If it is a minor cut, there should be no complications =] Good luck.

What is the best pain relief to take after surgery?

I have had my gallbladder out, I am on co -dryamol but they dont seem to be that great at relief, I cant take ibuprofen etc any ideas? I think i am justbeing desperate now, of course I expected some pain , but for how long? anyone else had this done?

Chosen Answer:

the pain will diminish on a daily basis, especially if you keep moving about and walking as much as you can. I had mine out, went home the same day, and went back to work the day after. No pain at all….but everyone is different. I just know the more you move about and keep active, the less it hurts.
