Vicodin helps, but sometimes is not enough to handle pain (yes you can take it with antibiotics.
For the best pain control (as long as you aren’t allergic) you should take 4 tablets of advil (like prescription strength motrin) taken every 6 to 8 hours AND take 1 vicodin PLUS one regular tylenol (Vicodin has the equivalent of one tylenol in it. Who takes 1 tylenol for anything??) Seems like alot, but you’ll be hammering at the pain in 3 different ways. You may only need to do this for 3 doses or so. Then you’ll graduate off of the vico, then off the tylenol, and finally, you’ll be able to space out the advil and/or cut it down to 400 mg.
When I have my patients do this, they come back so happy that the whole thing was so painless (I get them started on the advil while numb)
Good luck!

How do you kinow if you are addicted to Vicodin?
Posted by Admin in Vicodin Discussion on March 23, 2012
I had a serious surgery on my foot 6 months ago and I have been taking Vicodin ever since. I know I still need it because my pain gets pretty bad sometimes when the medicine wears off. But, when the time comes and the doctor says I don’t need anymore, what’s going to happen to me?
I forgot to tell you that I am afraid to ask my doctor because he will think I need to get off of it and I’m not ready!

If you feel that you need to take the vicodin to live. He should wean you off of it. Maybe you should see a pain management Doctor. 6 months is a long time for u to be still having alot of pain in that foot. Its possible that your body has become dependant on the vicodin. Which is different than addiction.
Addiction hapens when u take it when u dont need it, u take it for the high. Dependancy happens because u have been on it for so long and your body is used to having it. So that is what you will have. your doc. will need to wean you off slowly to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
I personally think u need a pain med that last longer than the vicodin, especially if u are having alot of pain in that foot. Could be u have some nerve damage. I suggest seeing a pain specialist.

How long does it usually take for a person to get addicted to vicodin?
Posted by Admin in Vicodin Discussion on January 27, 2012
I have been taking vicodin for two weeks now and I think I may be addicted to it. What can I do to help myself and how can my doctor help me? serious answers only please. Thank You!
Chosen Answer:
I’m a nurse. I would talk to the doctor about it. Your’e not far along as many people. You can simply chose not to take them. Most people take them for a very long time and later realize they have a problem. I think you are fine. It took you only two weeks and you realized, hey this could be a problem. My advice is to discontinue the use of it . You will later noticed that you caught the problem right before the addiction happened. Your’e fine, after all this isn’t what you wnat to do and your’e not in denial, that’s great. Be strong during this time, you can do it, I know you can.

How safe is it to be taking vicodin throughout my pregnancy?
Posted by Admin in Vicodin Discussion on December 7, 2011
I have serious back problems and have been taking vicodin for over 4 years now. I just yesterday found out that I’m pregnant. I cannot stop pain meds as I’m unable to function without them(because of the pain). I know that breatfeeding is out of the question, but how dangerous is it to my unborn child?
Chosen Answer:
This is probably something you’ll have to discuss with your OBGYN, but I’m assuming it is not very good for the baby.
