How soon can someone become addicted to Vicodin?
Posted by Admin in Vicodin Discussion on April 28, 2012
I’ve been taking Vicodin for three days for an injury to my face/nose. I’m still in pain, but I’m afraid to take too much Vicodin and become addicted. The doctor gave me 30 pills and I have about 15 left. Can a person become addicted that soon? Should I ask for something else for pain? Motrin 800 doesn’t help with the pain yet.
Actually, I have 12 pills left, so I’ve taken 18 pills in 3 days.

Okay, calm down. In order to develop a dependence for an opiate drug you would have to be taking it constantly in high doses for at least a month. You can most certainly finish that entire bottle, whether it be in 3 days, or in a month and you will be fine. Vicodin is not a strong form of hydrocodone and will not make you become addicted fast. I am an X addict and trust me it takes many many more pills and much more time. You are safe.

What are the odds of a person with vicodin and soma getting off of them in a rehab facility that they chose?
Posted by Admin in Vicodin Discussion on April 21, 2012
The person has chronic pain after 2 neck surgeries within last 4 years, but realizes that she is going to lose her life and family family if she continues to stay stoned all of the time (especially on the soma). She chose a facility, but I’d like to know if others have experience in this area. I think she was taking about 10 soma and 15 – 20 vicodin, but hard to tell since addicts lie so much. Any experience in this area or data would be great. Thank you?

Pain management and addiction can be tricky. If she wants to get clean, by all means, support her. But she will need alternate pain treatments. I would suggest she try accupunture, various physical therapies/messages, and naturopathic treatments. I’m sure it would be helpful if you got the information on local treatments for her.
Good luck.

You should be fine. It’s okay for short term use, and I can’t imagine getting addicted to it while just taking it for a week or two.

How long does it usually take for a person to get addicted to vicodin?
Posted by Admin in Vicodin Discussion on January 27, 2012
I have been taking vicodin for two weeks now and I think I may be addicted to it. What can I do to help myself and how can my doctor help me? serious answers only please. Thank You!
Chosen Answer:
I’m a nurse. I would talk to the doctor about it. Your’e not far along as many people. You can simply chose not to take them. Most people take them for a very long time and later realize they have a problem. I think you are fine. It took you only two weeks and you realized, hey this could be a problem. My advice is to discontinue the use of it . You will later noticed that you caught the problem right before the addiction happened. Your’e fine, after all this isn’t what you wnat to do and your’e not in denial, that’s great. Be strong during this time, you can do it, I know you can.

Can pain relief drugs prevent or treat the common cold?
Posted by Admin in Pain Relief on January 6, 2012
Can the use of pain relief drugs such as paracetimol or codine prevent a person from suffering the effects of the common cold if taken as symtoms begin? Why/Why not?
So would it be harmful for an indervidual to take these pain relief drugs for this reason?
Chosen Answer:
No. Pain relief drugs are made to be used for pain relief and not to prevent or even help against the cold virus. The only thing that you can do for this is to treat the symptoms until this virus runs it’s course. These usually include a decongestant for a runny nose and chest congestion so that you can help this way. Also drinking plenty of water. You’ll need 8-10 8 oz. glasses a day to help keep any secretions loosened so you can bring them up and it also keeps the immune system working at it’s best too.
Many people think orange juice is needed, but if your cold includes nausea or a sore throat this will only make them worse. You can take plenty of oral vitamin C for this. The pain drugs like codeine are used mainly to help things like bone pain. Where in a cold do you have bone pain except the normal aches and pains expected with a cold? This isn’t used for this either. The use for these pain drugs ae listed on the pamphlet you get along with the drug when you fill it at the pharmacy. Please make sure you read this as sometimes even if you’ve taken the same drug several times before there are changes made that might interest you. Anyone needing to see their doctor for drugs to help the symptoms of the cold virus needs to follow the advise of their doctor’s too. Good luck and God Bless
