I’ve got no plans to try it, I just heard that some lady tipped her hairdresser with a pill or two. And I wondered why? Did she have prior knowledge that her hairdresser is into that? Weird. But why do people take Vicodin without a prescription? What does it do to them?

Chosen Answer:

Vicodin is a mild to severe pain reliever. It is a narcotic which is a controlled substance which means people can get addicted along with habit forming. I use to be a major Vicodin addict 3.5 years ago and then quit finally cold turkey which was agony. Anyways yes Vicodin produces euphoria or a very strong “high” because it acts on the central nervous system particularly the pleasure part of the brain numbing your pain receptors to feel no sense of pain for 4-8 hours. At first it only took me one pill to give me a high that lasted all day. Then eventually overtime my body developed tolerance to the drug so I was taking anywhere from 5-10 a day to produce the same “high.” Vicodin gave me a very warm pleasureable happy feeling along with a strong sense of well-being. Everything was perfect when I was high on Vicodin I had no worries or fears. I felt like I could conquer the world plus it gave me tons of energy and I was more sociable. It also was unnoticed because it was a pill and I didn’t have to drink alcohol or smoke marijuana and cover up the smell. After realizing I had a major problem because one day I couldn’t get my drug addict hands on any Vicodin I went through heavy terrible withdrawal which consisted of: nausea, sweating, cold chills, hot flashes, anxiety, paranoia, heavy depression, anger outbursts, diarrhea, disphoria, dialated pupils, constipated, dehydration, severe aches and pains in muscles and joints, lower back pain, no sleep, no energy, and overall feelings of discomfort along with restlessness in legs. Yes, this drug I use to refer to as “happy pills” also turned into a long journey out of hell into sobriety for 3.5 years. Now can you understand why someone would take a few happy Vicodin pills for a tip? Back then I would’ve flat out taken Vicodin pills for a days work!!! But then understanding addiction and Vicodin withdrawal I will pass at all cost because it ruined my life when I was addicted I was mean, doped up, lazy, tired all the time, and spent money involving myself in illegal activity to buy street Vicodin. Its a road I wish noone would go down. Hope this helps. Also if that hairdresser seems extremely happy for periods or way more sociable following a crash into drowsy and moody you’ll know why! That person is a Vicodin addict. Hope I helped!!!

I am 24 weeks pregnant and i have a 3 year old son i had an emergancy c-section with him due to failure to progress my waters broke at 38wks with no contractons so labour was induced. This time I really want a vaginal birth but I have had little advice from my midwife or consultant. They have agreed I can try for a vbac but I have not been giving any information. I have read on the net not to be induced and stay clear of epidurals and other pain relief as they increase the risks and will lead to another c-section. Does any1 have any advice or has any1 achieved a vbac.

Chosen Answer:

i have never known anyone trying for a VBAC to go without pain relief, it sounds like a good idea in theory, but in reality you will need some pain relief.
have a look at this FAQ website about VBAC, it’s the best one i’ve read

Chosen Answer:

Didn’t use any of those methods or take any classes and went completely natural. Just go with the flow of the day(s), moan/groan through each contraction, walk when you can and lay down when you need to rest. Your body will let you know what you are capable of and trust yourself that you can do it if you have your mind set on natural – our bodies are designed for childbirth! Each pain has a purpose and brings you closer to seeing your beautiful baby. Good luck!

I had 3 beers while BBQing tonight and am considering taking a Vicodin for back and shoulder pain. All 3 beers were consumed in about a 3 hour time period, I finished my last beer about 2 hours ago, and I don’t feel any effects/drunkenness from the beer that I’ve consumed because I was eating the whole time. I DO NOT plan on drinking anymore alcohol tonight. Will taking a Vicodin now be OK?

Chosen Answer:

Take your Vicodin. Just expect to be really woozy. And only take ONE.

There’s no reason you should be in pain, but don’t make a habit of drinking and popping pills, okay? Today is an exception.
Is Vicodin okay to take for a cold, or will it upset my stomach or irritate my throat or something like that? I have a throat virus btw if that helps.

Chosen Answer:

Vicodin is going to make you very sleepy. Dont take it if you have alot to get done. You also need to take it with food, or it will upset your stomach. Tylenol wont really help either, unless its Tylenol Cold. Which again, will make you tired. My advice would be DayQuil. Wont make you drowsy but should help clear your head. After everything is done for the day, then consider the Vicodin to knock you out and get a good nights rest.

I am doing a study about vicodin for a class health project. I read on the prescription bottle that an overdose would be considered over 2 in one sitting but some people are prescribed more than 4 in one day. What would be too much to the point that extreme side effects would kick in? What amount would be lethal?

Chosen Answer:

I don’t know what bottle you’re reading, but that is incorrect information. The problem with Vicodin, and the risk of “overdose”, or, ingesting enough to become toxic to your body, is the presence of acetaminophen in the pill. Standard Vicodin pills are 5 mg hydrocodone plus 500 mg of acetaminophen. The maximum dosage of APAP per day is 4000 mg, but that has been debated still. Acetaminophen toxicity is surprisingly common, and is the leading cause of liver failure in the United States. So, your “overdose” would most likely be a result of acetaminophen poisoning, not an excessive dose of hydrocodone, which, at only 5 mg per pill, is pretty weak. The usual dosing schedule of Vicodin is 1-2 pills, every 6 hours (I work in a pharmacy, see it prescribed all the time).

I have been on vicodin for four years for chronic pain.
I have been forced to reduce my pills greatly for an upcoming surgery. I have not felt this bad in a long time. Is this normal?

Chosen Answer:

Yes. It’s completely normal. Your body has become physically addicted to vicodin and now needs a certain amount of the drug just to feel normal. You are now having withdrawal symptoms. Personally, I think these symptoms will last longer than 4 days, but with that said, each day will get better and better, with less severe symptoms. I promise you it will get better….just keep up the good work….I know it’s tough.
