Posted by Admin in Pain Relief on February 19, 2012
Thank you to everyone who has so far helped with my report i’m very grateful.
I now need to hear from women who have had a natural child birth as well as a birth with medical pain relief it is so i can compare the two. I would appreciate e-mail addresses so I can send questions but understand if that’s not possible.
Thanks x

Did anyone go through labour and forget to get pain relief?
Posted by Admin in Pain Relief on February 18, 2012
I just wondered if anyone else found labour so distracting that they couldn’t think of anything else, including pain relief.
I really wanted to try gas and air and had planned to, and the midwife had some with her that I could have used if I had remembered it existed!
I was very quiet and very calm and totally in my own head, and totally just forgot that there was such a thing as pain relief.
Has anyone else done this? I know it sounds weird!

my father is taking warfarin and wonders what pain relief he can take for headache?
Posted by Admin in Pain Relief on February 17, 2012
he said that most standard pain relief says not to take if currently on warfarin. Any ideas?
Chosen Answer:
Fioricet helps for migraines. I take two tablets everyday. It’s best to get them filled generic at Walmart. They give you thick dull blue colored pills. Walgreen’s give you different fioricet that doesn’t work as well.

What pain relief tablets are good for trapped nerves in neck/shoulder. Please help?
Posted by Admin in Pain Relief on February 14, 2012
My dad has had a bad shoulder since Wednesday, he went to the doctor on Thursday and he told him he had a trapped nerve and prescribed him Tramadol, but this has many side effects and doesn’t really numb the pain for him.
He is in a lot of agony so i wondered if anyone has experienced this and/or has any advice on pain relief and if you know what sort of time it could take to subside. I will pass on any answers
Thank you !
Chosen Answer:
Tramadol is a horrid drug and can cause side affects that are very unpleasant.
Often they will prescribe a mix of drugs for nerve pain which work much better but this involves prescription strengh Co codamol and others that take time to work. Which is why they Doctors go for a hard hitting one to start with.
Might actually get some relief from a painkiller that is an anti inflammatory as well. A pharmacist will be able to help you and advice you on the drugs sold from behind the counter.
In theory as it is a trapped nerve it should be a short term problem and is best relieved by being proactive and paying to see a physiotherapist or chiropracter as quickly as possible.

Is an epidural a safe form of pain relief in labor?
Posted by Admin in Pain Relief on February 7, 2012
I am considering using an epidural. My previous children were all born with no pain relief at all. I am having my last and am considering avoiding the pain. I do not want to put myself or the child in harms way.
Chosen Answer:
They are MOSTLY safe. I opted for an epidural when my daughter was born, and they had to place the needle twice (be forewarned that this isn’t uncommon if you’re overweight) which was NO fun. Getting the epidural was the worst part of my labor experience, although it did help with the pain relief. However, it also caused my baby’s heart rate to PLUMMET just minutes after the epidural was in. Thank God it came back up fairly quickly, but it gave the nurses a good scare (not to mention me!) So it’s not without its risks, but it is MOSTLY safe.
For what it’s worth, there are lots of natural methods of pain relief – massage, hypnotherapy, water, birthing ball, etc – that are also supposed to be great methods of pain relief during labor. Having been there and done that, I do plan to try for an unmedicated delivery next go round!
