experiences with other forms pain relief during labor and delivery?

I had an epidural with my first pregnancy and for me it wasn’t a pleasant experience. yes it did help a lot with the pain but i absolutely hated having something in my spine and afterwards it caused my blood sugar to drop dangerously low. im really considering trying something different for pain relief. has anyone used anything besides the epidural or know someone that has and what was the experience? thanks!

When trying for a vbac should you avoid all pain relief and induction to labour to increase your chances?

I am 24 weeks pregnant and i have a 3 year old son i had an emergancy c-section with him due to failure to progress my waters broke at 38wks with no contractons so labour was induced. This time I really want a vaginal birth but I have had little advice from my midwife or consultant. They have agreed I can try for a vbac but I have not been giving any information. I have read on the net not to be induced and stay clear of epidurals and other pain relief as they increase the risks and will lead to another c-section. Does any1 have any advice or has any1 achieved a vbac.

Chosen Answer:

i have never known anyone trying for a VBAC to go without pain relief, it sounds like a good idea in theory, but in reality you will need some pain relief.
have a look at this FAQ website about VBAC, it’s the best one i’ve read

Anyone had any luck with alternative methods of pain relief during labor?

im 20 weeks probably a little early to really have to worry about a birth plan but i know i would like to try to do it without epidural/demerol anyone have any experience with alternative methods of pain relief like lamaze/accupressure/hypnobirthing etc. ? did you find them effective or a waste of time and would reccomend against them?

Chosen Answer:

Didn’t use any of those methods or take any classes and went completely natural. Just go with the flow of the day(s), moan/groan through each contraction, walk when you can and lay down when you need to rest. Your body will let you know what you are capable of and trust yourself that you can do it if you have your mind set on natural – our bodies are designed for childbirth! Each pain has a purpose and brings you closer to seeing your beautiful baby. Good luck!

I’m trying to find articles on administering narcotic or opioid medication for pain relief (e.g. if the person breaks their leg) in persons recovering from a substance addiction, e.g. heroin.

Chosen Answer:

Some good search terms would be buprenorphine and suboxone.

What are the pain relief options?

I am going to give birth in about 8 weeks, and I really can’t handle pain, what pain relief options are there? The more the better please. Also what is the best in your experience?

Chosen Answer:

one word: EPIDURAL! With my first I had only a shot of Stadol, they didn’t get there in time with my epidural. With my second, I made sure I got the epidural in time; it made all the difference in the world!

What is the pain relief creme that I’m thinking of?

I know what the stuff looks like, but I can’t seem to remember the name. It’s good to put on sore muscles, and it’s not Bengay or IcyHot. It comes in a tube and it might be called Dr._’s ___. or something. Even a list of popular pain relief cremes in the Uk would be helpful. Thanks a lot!

Lower Back Pain relief after hanging upside down?

Does hanging upside down for 1 hour a day relieves lower back pain to the point when you have no lower back pain and the pain comes back after lifting heavy objects or sitting a lot, or does it cures it but it comes back after lifting heavy objects and sitting a lot?
Cure = if one has mild or far disc herniation one gets absolutely rid of this disease.
Pain relief = the pain goes away but the disease (disc bulge, disc herniation, etc.) stays.

Chosen Answer:

Hanging upside down only relieves the pain for a short while as it opens up the disks inbetween the spinal coloums. I have a fractured disk in my lower and tried the hanging upside down but the pain always came back after lifting objects or sitting to long.

I have been going to pilates now for a while and after a month of it i hardly get any pain at all. I made sure to tell my pilates trainer about my condition so she knew what exercises to do and not do. Even the pilates breathing can help with the pain immediately. So you can maybe try that as well as stretching.

Is it ok to use a pain relief gel on my arm and shoulder muscles?

I use my shoulder and arm muscles at work, A LOT. It gets really achy at the end of the day. I bought a pain relief gel before I found out I was pregnant. It doesn’t say anything on the warnings about pregnant or nursing women. So that’s the question…is a pain relief gel ok to use?
