How long does it usually take for a person to get addicted to vicodin?
Posted by Admin in Vicodin Discussion on January 27, 2012
I have been taking vicodin for two weeks now and I think I may be addicted to it. What can I do to help myself and how can my doctor help me? serious answers only please. Thank You!
Chosen Answer:
I’m a nurse. I would talk to the doctor about it. Your’e not far along as many people. You can simply chose not to take them. Most people take them for a very long time and later realize they have a problem. I think you are fine. It took you only two weeks and you realized, hey this could be a problem. My advice is to discontinue the use of it . You will later noticed that you caught the problem right before the addiction happened. Your’e fine, after all this isn’t what you wnat to do and your’e not in denial, that’s great. Be strong during this time, you can do it, I know you can.

As a regular user of Vicodin for back pain, will Tramadol give me the same effect?
Posted by Admin in Vicodin Discussion on January 25, 2012
I am regularly prescribed Vicodin after a car accident last summer, but I plan on stopping because I’ve developed too big of a tolerance. I heard Tramadol can be very effective and somewhat safer. As someone who has taken Vicodin for over a year and needs three or four to feel effects, do you think Tramadol will work for me?
Chosen Answer:
Some patients have similar or even better effects from tramadol, but in my experience, most do not notice significant relief after being on other opiates for prolonged periods.
Incidentally, tramadol is not safer, and has addiction and withdrawal issues just like Vicodin (many patients are now complaining the withdrawals are worse than Vicodin).
If you are taking 3-4 Vicodin to feel relief, you have the increased issue of too much acetaminophen which can cause liver damage in the long term. You should probably discuss your pain issues with someone who works with long term pain patients. There are many methods for managing back pain without significant use of opiate pain medications, as well as safer opiate preparations for long term use.
I don’t want to give bad news, but I don’t think tramadol would be a good choice in your situation given the limited information you have provided.

What pain relief did you have in childbirth?
Posted by Admin in Pain Relief on January 24, 2012
I am only about 5-8 weeks along and already thinking about this. What pain relief did you have and did it help? also what are you views on having an epidural for a calm birth? Thanks for all answers x
Chosen Answer:
i had an epidural both times. the first was very unpleasant- couldnt feel my legs at all, made me very jittery and shaky, and by the time i was almost ready to push, it had mostly worn off. still had a LOT of pain at that point, but baby came out fine. afterwards though, when i finally stood again, i was super dizzy and nauseous.
the second time, complete 180. epidural was perfect, numb enough to dull the pain, but i was still able to move my legs on my own, could feel thing, etc. had NO pain, no dizziness, no nausea. was even able to laugh and joke between pushes. very relaxing calm enjoyable birth. plus the second baby was 9 lbs! it was excellent!

What happens if you overdose on Panadol and extra strength pain relief tablets?
Posted by Admin in Pain Relief on January 22, 2012
What would happen to you if you took 21 Extra strength pain Relief tablets that contain 500mg of paracetamol and 8g of Codein Phosphrate, + 2 Panadol + 50 plaquenil (contains 200mg of Hydroxychloroquine????

ER NOW!!!! CALL 911!!!!
If you actually took these you are going to going to go into acute liver failure probably the worst possible way to die. your blood will thin to the point that you start bleeding out, your body won’t be able to keep fluid in your blood vessels so you will have terrible edema, fluid will accumulate in your abdomen and will have to be drained with a huge needle every few days, you will likely go into kidney failure as a result and then will either need a transplant, either that or die in agony. Oh and while all this is going on you are slowly starving to death b/c of the huge role your liver plays in energy production.
Their is a medication you can get at an ER, acytelcystine, it helps to minimize the toxic effects of the drug and hopefully salvage some small portion of your liver function so you can survive long enough to pray to god you get a liver transplant

How large is a vicodin pill compared to a tylenol capsule?
Posted by Admin in Vicodin Discussion on January 20, 2012
My dentist is prescribing me vicodin for my severe tooth pain until I I can see a specialist on Friday and I’m just wondering how large a Vicodin pill is in comparison to a tylenol capsule. I have large tonsils so pills bigger than tylenol are hard for me to swallow so I usually have to cut them in half.
Chosen Answer:
The pill is about as long as a tylenol its long the only problem is bulky…and they do not recommend that you break it in half.

Any information on pain relief of arthritis using marijuana?
Posted by Admin in Pain Relief on January 17, 2012
My wife’s doctor told her he cannot help her anymore. For pain relief he prescribed Vicodin. It helps but she would like to use marijuana as a tea and see if it helps. Both of us are non-smokers and have had no experience with marijuana. Any info is appreciated. Thanks
Chosen Answer:
In a Medical Marijuana (MMJ) State your wife needs to ask the Dr. to sign a recommendation form. The Dr. should understand that pharmaceutical pain killers do not allow everyone to have a quality of life. A State that allows MMJ has a form online that she can present to the Dr. After registering as an MMJ patient I would grow the medicine. Search the Internet for Tea recipes ( I’d suggest BudTer and make some cookies). There are co ops and local groups that help patients with home grown medicine. Dispensaries are available in MMJ States for medicine purchases. Ingesting MMJ can take up to 2 hours to reach all the extremities. It does give a more all over body relief but slowly. Using MMJ means experimenting with dose and frequency. Also look at a vaporizer which delivers the instant relief and is not ‘smoking’ detrimental.

As long as you’ve been taking the correct doses you shouldn’t experience any issues after only 5 days use.
